Amtico Wilton Oak Parquet in a Cornish Village Cottage
By MH Flooring Specialists • Amtico Spacia flooring case study
A four-day flooring transformation provided the finishing touch to the extension and renovation of a Cornish village cottage. MH Flooring installed Amtico Spacia Wilton Oak in a parquet pattern, framed with a single-plank border that carries neatly through the kitchen, hallway and adjoining living spaces.
The project combined careful preparation over different subfloor areas with accurate setting-out around kitchen cabinetry, doorways and the staircase. The result is a continuous oak-effect floor that complements the cottage's traditional details and newly renovated interior.
Project overview
Location: Cornwall
Property: Village cottage extension and renovation
Spaces: Kitchen, hallway and adjoining open-plan areas
Flooring: Amtico Spacia Wilton Oak
Design: Parquet field with a single-plank border
Preparation: Stopgap smoothing compound
Adhesive: Amtico HT Extra
Additional feature: Underfloor heating
Preparing the Cottage Subfloor
The original hallway and the renovated extension presented different floor conditions, so preparation was a vital part of creating one consistent finished surface. The existing areas were assessed and cleaned before Stopgap smoothing compound was applied where required.
This produced the even base needed for an accurately aligned parquet installation and a clean transition between the older cottage and its extension.

Setting Out the Wilton Oak Parquet
Parquet flooring relies on precise setting-out. The centre lines were planned through the connected rooms so the pattern remained balanced as it passed doorways and kitchen units. A laser helped maintain those reference lines while the parquet field was installed.
Amtico HT Extra adhesive was used for the installation. The images below show the field taking shape before the perimeter cuts and single-plank border were completed.

A Single-Plank Border Through Connected Spaces
A straight-plank border frames the parquet pattern and gives each area a considered edge. Here it was cut around the kitchen cabinetry, walls, doorways and curved stair detail while preserving the flow from one space to the next.
The warm Wilton Oak tone works especially well with the cottage's deep blue-green cabinetry, light walls and natural timber details.

The Finished Cornish Cottage Floor
The completed floor brings together the renovated kitchen, hallway and extension with one continuous design. The parquet pattern adds movement, while the border defines the edges and highlights the quality of the fitting around the room's many details.
Completed over four days, the installation gives this Cornish village cottage a practical oak-effect finish suited to its blend of traditional character and contemporary living.
